Glasgow police investigate after child injured by firework thrown at woman with pram
GLASGOW — A child sustained minor injuries after a firework was thrown at a woman and her children in Glasgow on Halloween evening, police said Saturday.
The incident occurred on Linkwood Place, close to Drumchapel Park, around 6:35pm on October 31, 2026. The family was in the area when a firework was directed toward them. One child, who was in a pram, was injured.
Detective Constable Ashley Convery described the act as "completely reckless" and said the child’s injuries could have been much worse. "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated," Convery said, adding that additional officers will be patrolling the community ahead of Bonfire Night.
Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses and anyone with private CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2804 of October 31.
The incident occurred amid a broader context of fireworks activity across Scotland. On Saturday, Police Scotland received 144 fireworks-related calls on Halloween, down from 160 calls on October 31, 2025. Firework Control Zones are in place in 14 areas of Edinburgh and four areas of Glasgow until early November, and dispersal zones are in force in some places. Operation Moonbeam resources were deployed across the country to address fireworks-related disorder, with Chief Superintendent David Robertson stating the overwhelming majority of communities celebrated in the proper spirit.
Chief Superintendent David Robertson, gold commander for Operation Moonbeam, said: "Sadly, however, we have again experienced incidents of fireworks used as projectiles at buildings, vehicles and members of the public. This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and has to stop before there are serious consequences." Investigations into these offences will be launched immediately to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
No reports indicate officers involved in the operation were injured. Police said inquiries to identify those involved in the Glasgow incident are ongoing.
