Rodger Allen, 75, from Wellington, Somerset, is undertaking a 100km trek across the Sahara desert to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research.
The retired oncology research scientist was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012. Since his initial diagnosis, Allen has also been treated for throat and skin cancer.
Despite his professional background in cancer research, Allen said he will live "under the cloud" of prostate cancer for the rest of his life.
Allen said: "We need a better test for prostate cancer and this money can help go towards making that a reality."
The 100km walk across the Sahara is intended to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research. Allen emphasized the need for improved testing for the disease, stating that the funds raised will contribute toward making better diagnostics a reality.
