Ravie Dubey on playing Lord Lakshman in Ramayana: 'Even after 2.5 years, it hasn't sunk in'
MUMBAI — Actor Ravie Dubey, who essays Lord Lakshman in Namit Malhotra's cinematic epic Ramayana, has described the experience as surreal, stating that even after two-and-a-half years of shooting, the magnitude of the opportunity has yet to sink in.
Dubey made the remarks during a Diwali special episode of the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, where he reflected on the emotional journey of portraying the revered character alongside his wife Sargun. When host Amitabh Bachchan asked what was going through his mind, Dubey said he still felt as though it was an illusion, a dream unfolding.
"5 November ko picture aane wali hai... to jab pehli dafa sir pata chala ki main...Ramayan mein Lakshman ka paatra nibha raha hoon, to... main stabdh sa reh gaya," Dubey said. "You know how they say that something hasn't quite sunk in? I am speaking honestly, hand on heart, that... even now, I feel it still hasn't sunk in... but my wife Sargun and I believe that if things... happen, they happen only through grace, through divine ordinance and divine grace."
The character poster for Lakshman was subsequently unveiled, featuring Dubey in a warrior avatar holding a bow and arrow. The poster's caption read: "A devoted brother. A fearless warrior. Rama's shield."
Ramayana also stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Rocking Star Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, with the second part slated for Diwali 2027. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX among its premium theatrical formats.
As anticipation builds ahead of the release, Dubey's reflection on the surreal nature of the role offers a personal perspective on the scale of the production.
