Connections puzzle #1240 solution for November 2

The New York Times Connections puzzle #1240 for November 2 challenges players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on shared themes. The puzzle, rated 2.5 out of 5 in difficulty by NYT, went live at midnight local time.

The yellow group, classified as the easiest, features things to bring on a trek: BACKPACK, COMPASS, HIKING BOOTS, and WATER BOTTLE. The green group relates to anger, with the words INCENSE, NETTLE, PIQUE, and WIND UP. The blue group involves mist-making elements: DRY ICE, FOG MACHINE, HUMIDIFIER, and WATERFALL. The purple group, considered the most challenging, contains things with mirrors: DISCO BALL, DRESSING ROOM, KALEIDOSCOPE, and MEDICINE CABINET.

Each group of four is removed from the board when correctly identified. Players may make up to four incorrect guesses before the game ends. Words in the grid are designed to potentially fit multiple categories, requiring careful discrimination. The game resets daily at midnight with a new set of words and themes.

Connections was created with the help of associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu and has become one of the New York Times' most popular daily word games. Players can share their results on social media and track their progress through the Times Games section.
