WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A business jet crashed into a South Florida neighborhood Sunday, killing all nine people on board, investigators said. The aircraft was traveling from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to the Bahamas when the pilot reported ice accumulation on the jet and moderate turbulence, according to air traffic control recordings. The situation rapidly deteriorated as the pilot declared an emergency, reporting the descent rate increased to 10,000 feet per minute before stating "we're going to crash into the ground." Video recorded by passersby showed the plane banking sharply to the right before crashing and exploding in Greenacres, about 7 miles southwest of West Palm Beach. National Transportation Safety Board member Tom Chapman said evidence found at the crash site indicates the aircraft was breaking up before impact, with parts of the plane found some distance from the actual crash site. All nine people on board were killed. Among the victims was 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, who earned her pilot's license in 2023 at age 17 while a senior at West Boca Raton Community High School. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said there were no immediate reports of anyone on the ground injured or killed. Palm Beach County authorities evacuated about 600 people from a nearby mobile home community as the FAA and NTSB continue their investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
