WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — A private Learjet 60 crashed into a neighborhood in Palm Beach County, Florida on Sunday, killing all nine people on board, US transportation investigators said. The aircraft departed Austin, Texas at 3:37 pm Irish time en route to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Weather conditions are a major focus of the investigation, with pilots reporting moderate turbulence and ice accumulation before the crash. In an audio recording posted to air traffic control website LiveATC, someone in the cockpit reported picking up precipitation and needed to climb before declaring a mayday while descending 10,000 feet per minute. The NTSB is examining whether weather played a role in the fatal accident. The aircraft, operated by Aurora Aviation as Upper Jets, was a Bombardier model that entered service in 2004 and was renovated in 2018. It was carrying a pilot, a copilot and seven passengers. Authorities have not released the victims' identities, saying genetic analysis is needed. An injury to a driver in the area near the crash site was also noted by investigators. The NTSB has not confirmed whether a cockpit recorder was operational on the aircraft at the time of the crash. The agency continues to piece together the sequence of events leading to the crash.
