ALLAHABAD, India — The Allahabad High Court has strongly condemned the scale of falsehoods on social media targeting the judiciary, stating that such propaganda threatens the credibility of the judicial process and can irreparably damage the reputation of judges.
A bench comprising Justice Ajay Bhanot and Justice Divesh Chandra Samana made the observations while commenting on a recent incident of courtroom violence at the High Court.
The court said that a "propagandist scale of falsehoods" regarding court proceedings poses a serious threat to the credibility of the judicial process and the majesty of Courts. It added that while judges' reputations are built over a lifetime in the profession, falsehoods on social media can destroy them irreparably in a matter of seconds.
"There is no justice for judges who are prey to such social media propaganda," the Court said.
The remarks highlight the growing concern over the impact of social media narratives on the functioning and reputation of the judiciary.
