Rebecca Stokell, Ireland's women's cricketer, has been provisionally suspended after acknowledging an inadvertent breach of International Cricket Council anti-doping regulations. The breach relates to the reporting requirements for prescription medication and was unintentional, as the substance involved was not performance-enhancing. The 26-year-old all-rounder accepted responsibility for the violation and will remain suspended pending the outcome of an ICC investigation. The case draws comparison to Australia pacer Megan Schutt, who was recently handed a two-match suspension for failing to adhere to guidelines governing prescription medication. Schutt's breach also occurred out of competition and did not involve a performance-enhancing substance. Graeme West, Cricket Ireland's Director of High Performance, said while there is sympathy for Stokell, the incident underscores that anti-doping rules are in place to protect both the sport and the athletes. Stokell, who was last in action during an ODI series against England in early September, said she accepted her mistake and hopes to add to her 109 caps for Ireland. Cricket Ireland has stated it has provided appropriate support in the circumstances.
