LONDON — Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will not include fast travel points, despite initial proposals to add them to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Producer Eiji Aonuma revealed in a recent Ask The Developer blog post that the team considered adding warp points to alleviate player fatigue, as many in the original 1996 game relied on spamming the forward roll to traverse Hyrule Field quickly. However, after testing the feature, the development team decided to remove all added warp points. Aonuma stated that the fast travel undermined the core exploratory spirit of the series, noting that the moments of discovery found by stopping along the way and wondering about hidden secrets are essential to the structure of Ocarina of Time. The remake, scheduled for release on November 5, will preserve the classic traversal experience of the original. Art director Aya Shida also discussed the game's visual style, describing it as having a "puppet-show feel" and the "analog feel of practical effects films," emphasizing that the aesthetic aims to create a convincing sense that characters exist within their fantasy world rather than reproduce reality. The decision to scrap fast travel underscores Nintendo's commitment to maintaining the design integrity of a remake that faces high expectations, particularly given the original's status as a landmark title in gaming history. With IGN reporting the preview as the year's second-highest-performing after GTA 6 and garnering over 1.8 million YouTube views, the remake launches amid significant anticipation.
