The Board of Control for Cricket in India has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit player retention lists by two days, moving the cutoff from November 15 to November 17. In a communique sent to franchises on Monday, the board said teams now have until November 17 to finalize the players they wish to retain or release ahead of the mini-auction.
The extension was prompted by the overlap between the original deadline and the fifth and final ODI between India and New Zealand, scheduled for November 15 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The BCCI has confirmed the IPL mini-auction remains scheduled for December 16 in Goa, with the date and venue unchanged.
Player registration for the auction opened on Monday and will close on November 23. Franchises must submit their final list of players they wish to bid for by December 1. The final auction register, including the order of player sets, will be released on December 3.
Notably, a second ODI between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled for December 16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, coinciding with the auction date. The BCCI has given no indication of a change to the auction schedule despite this overlap.
The extension provides franchises additional time to complete their retention process without disrupting the broader IPL calendar, with the mini-auction in Goa set to proceed as planned.
