BENGALURU — Jailer 2, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, has surpassed Rs. 500 crore at the Indian box office to become the highest-grossing Kollywood film in India, edging past the longstanding record held by 2.0.

The film collected approximately Rs. 11.75 crore on its third Sunday, pushing its total Indian gross to Rs. 508.50 crore, compared with 2.0's Rs. 508 crore.

However, a caveat applies. 2.0 was released in 3D, generating an estimated Rs. 30-35 crore in 3D surcharges not included in the reported figures. If industry reporting standards were to include 3D charges retrospectively, the record could potentially shift back in favor of 2.0, depending on Jailer 2's performance through the Diwali holiday period.

In Tamil Nadu, Jailer 2 is approaching the Rs. 200 crore nett territory and is expected to cross that milestone soon. Worldwide, the film's gross stood at approximately Rs. 774 crore as of yesterday, bringing it close to the Rs. 800 crore mark — a target that remains within reach but requires sustained momentum.

The update to the Top Ten Highest Grossing Kollywood Films in India sees Jailer 2 ranked first at Rs. 508.50 crore, followed by 2.0 at Rs. 508 crore, Leo at Rs. 421 crore, Jailer (2023) at Rs. 410 crore, and Ponniyin Selvan: I at Rs. 325 crore.
