DUBAI — Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed to have targeted Saudi Arabia's Dammam airport with two drones over a 48-hour period, causing disruption to air traffic, a Houthi military spokesman said on Monday.
Yahya Saree, the group's armed forces spokesman, said the operation achieved its objective and led to a disruption of air traffic at the airport. The claim came as the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted two drones in the Riyadh area earlier in the day.
The Dammam airport attack followed a prior incident days earlier in which two people were killed and eight others were wounded, including an Indian national. The airport had reopened the day after that attack.
Saree also said the Houthis launched drones toward an early-warning radar in Jizan and a military transport aircraft at Jizan airport. Saudi Arabia's oil facilities and airports have been subject to Houthi attacks for some time. There was no immediate confirmation from Saudi authorities.
The incident highlights the continued volatility in the region, where Houthi drone and missile strikes have targeted Saudi infrastructure for years, prompting repeated coalition interceptions.
