VERIFICATION FAILED AND FLORIDA JET CRASH CLAIMS NINE
A device verification process failed, prompting users to attempt the check again. Separately, a private jet crashed in Florida, killing all nine people aboard the aircraft.
Among the victims was 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Filgueiras, who earned her pilot's licence at age 17. Filgueiras had been flying planes since before she could drive a car, her mother telling the New York Times she loved the freedom of seeing the world from above. In a 2023 interview, Filgueiras said she liked being different, noting that some people find it weird she can fly planes but cannot drive a car.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed all nine passengers died during the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board faces a daunting recovery mission at the crash site. CBS News, the BBC's media partner, confirmed Filgueiras was aboard the plane. One person connected to Filgueiras said briefly: "I am not ready to speak."
