Mira Rajput says she has no regrets about motherhood at 22
Mira Rajput, who became a mother at 22 just one year after marrying Shahid Kapoor in 2015, says she has no regrets about starting motherhood so early. Speaking on Kareena Kapoor Khan's talk show What Women Want, Rajput said the transition was made easier by her husband's support and her two sisters, who were already mothers.
"I don't think so. Regardless of what stage it comes to you, motherhood is a challenge. You and I have had kids at different stages, but I am sure we have both had those challenges," Rajput said, responding to Kareena's question about whether she wished she had waited longer.
Rajput credited Shahid for being "extremely supportive" and said she didn't read parenting books because she had her sisters' experience to learn from. The couple, who married in an arranged marriage in 2015, connected over their shared spiritual beliefs. They welcomed daughter Misha in 2016 and son Zain in 2018.
On how they divide parenting duties, Rajput said it is important that both partners pitch in.
"I think it is very important to share responsibilities between husband and wife because one person can't do everything," she said.
Their arrangement is role-based but flexible: Shahid takes charge of the children's sports and diet, while Mira looks after their homework, birthday parties, classes and general behaviour. Whenever one of them is travelling, the other steps in to manage everything.
Rajput also said she looks forward to being 41 when Misha turns 21. The conversation also touched on how she and Shahid are raising children Misha and Zain without gender stereotypes, after an incident where son Zain responded to a correction by saying "But I am a boy. She can't do that to me."
Kareena and Mira praised their easy equation and comfort around each other during the discussion. Kareena and Shahid were in a relationship from 2004 to 2007, while Shahid married Mira in 2012's former partner went on to marry Saif Ali Khan in 2012.
