Raspberry Pi has raised prices on its 16-bit Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Module 5 variants, citing ongoing shortages of 16GB DRAM and other components. According to CEO Eben Upton, the increases are driven by a lack of alternative supply for high-density memory, compounded by other ongoing component shortages. From today, the 16GB variant of Raspberry Pi 5 costs $385, an $80 increase, while 16GB Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 variants have increased by $40. The company has held the price of the Raspberry Pi 500+, its premium all-in-one desktop computer built into a mechanical keyboard, which also features 16GB of RAM. Upton has written multiple price-hike posts in the last year, describing the current memory landscape as difficult but ultimately temporary. He encouraged customers to consider lower-density variants or earlier Raspberry Pi models to avoid paying for more memory than needed. Other Raspberry Pi 5 configurations, including the 2GB version, have also seen price increases. All products are available at official prices through the Raspberry Pi Approved Reseller network.
