Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians are reportedly exploring a potential trade deal involving star all-rounder Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2027 auction, though significant obstacles remain.
According to reports, Mumbai Indians have demanded pacer Harshit Rana and young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi from Kolkata Knight Riders in exchange for Pandya. The five-time IPL champions are understood to be keen to secure both players as part of the proposed trade.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders have resisted releasing several key players. The franchise is reportedly unwilling to part ways with experienced spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, along with vice-captain and finisher Rinku Singh. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is unlikely to feature in the discussions, with uncertainty surrounding his availability for the entire IPL season due to workload management.
KKR's reported concerns over Pandya's fitness and injury history have also complicated negotiations. The franchise reportedly showed limited interest in pursuing the all-rounder following the initial round of discussions with Mumbai Indians. There were also concerns surrounding the entourage accompanying the player at various venues.
Mumbai Indians' demand for Harshit Rana and Raghuvanshi has emerged as a significant sticking point. Rana played an important role in KKR's IPL 2024 title-winning campaign, while Raghuvanshi was the franchise's leading run-scorer in IPL 2026. With Raghuvanshi emerging as a key part of KKR's batting plans, the franchise's willingness to release the youngster could prove decisive.
Apart from Kolkata, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings have also reportedly emerged as potential destinations for Pandya. Mumbai Indians are understood to have explored a possible deal with Rajasthan Royals involving opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and spinner Ravi Bishnoi, though discussions have reportedly made little progress. A potential trade with Chennai Super Kings has also encountered resistance, with MI reportedly expressing interest in young batter Ayush Mhatre but CSK firmly rejecting the proposal.
With the IPL 2027 auction approaching, Hardik Pandya's future at Mumbai Indians has become a major talking point. The proposed KKR deal appears to hinge on whether the three-time champions are prepared to part ways with Raghuvanshi and Harshit Rana to secure the services of the India all-rounder. Further discussions between the two teams are reportedly expected to resume in the coming week.
